Nice!
Were those EL cars the one that lasted forever in Conrail service?

If you're talking about what I think you are talking about, those were the (Conrail class) HE7A, a batch of 12 panel cars that was delivered in 1974 - on roller bearing trucks.  Those cars are technically not the same body as the PRR H39, but they're close.

Oh, I will need all of the CASO cars. I’ve had a long-term project to bring the Dane iron ore trains into the spotlight. Such a fascinating international ore train with great cars and locomotives.

Thank you!

Cool - might "need" to grab some CRR, EL, & WM.  8)

Anyone know when Clinchfield took possession of these? "Clinchfield Railroad bought this group of 323 (and probably more) hoppers secondhand from Pittsburgh & Lake Erie."

Clinchfield got them sometime between '69 and '74 (falling into a 5 year gap in my Official Railway Equipment Register collection!)

What years did this train operate? I know it was gone before my era, but I grabbed a CASO hopper on an earlier run just because.

I knew L&N had some ex-C&EI 100 tonners, but I didn’t know about these 70 tonners. I’m looking forward to them!

Mike,

1965 to 1971 when Dofasco bought the Adams Mine.
Old time trains has a decent explanation on the trains, interesting operation.

Thanks, I do believe I've visited that page in years past but forgot about it. Interesting that three roads participated but six road names were in the pool thanks to NYC subsidiaries, CASO being the rarest of them I'd imagine (at least in terms of how often one saw cars lettered for them).
