Notice nowhere on that page do they list the resolution, they tell you how many pixels deep and wide the screen is, but not what size they are.

I understand you need to use the new high speed resin as well.    If I remember correctly you can print up to 4" in an hour...I suspect the resolution is 1. mm or more?

it is 0.1mm instead of the usual 0.05mm.

So now Elegoo has a Mars 4 9K with 18x18 micron pixels.

Notice how this "9K" printer has a higher resolution than a "12K" printer. Not that it maters, but if this is all true then the Mars 4 is the highest so far. It also comes with "ACF release liner film".

Because the build size is smaller so even with fewer pixels (9k vs 12k) the resolution is higher.  It's just a 7" diagonal screen instead of the 10" diagonal on the AnyCubic.  It's almost as small as the original printers 4 years ago.

Still depends on the Z axis resolution to have a true symmetric voxel, else you have a rectangular prism.

I got ripped on before for suggesting any less than 0.05mm before on my mono x. This new mono X 12k is 0.01 resolution.

Ah someone posted about some FB post that the calculation of this and that plus the lead angle of the screw minus backlash or whatever, then turned around a few days later and printed at 0.02, proving my point.

Yes, I understand about the openings but that is what supports are for. It can be done just like a resin casting where you clear a thin wafer out afterwards.

ACF film is probably the next test, removing artificats from printing is higher priority than smaller pixel size at this point for me. The pair of Mono X's i'm running have great results, but the weird pull and layer lines and the bow in the middle of large prints I tend to get are the only downside i see.

EDIT: I pruchased some Phrozen ACF Film for my two Mono X's, currently been running NFEP, we'll see how the change goes!

Anycubic Photon M5s is now at $349.00 (6/11/2023)

Looks to be an interesting machine.  Speed was not one of my considerations although the Anycubic Photon M3 Premium was advertised as being "faster" than other machines.  I haven't set my printing parameters for speed, but for details and no fails. 

Since I can print a bunch of N-scale parts with a 10.1" LCD, and I'm printing parts in a single layer, I can get up to 150+ parts in 1hour & 14 minutes using a 0.020mm layer thickness.  I don't want to print anything with a 0.100mm layer thickness since details are the name of the game with what I'm doing.

Took me about ten minutes to level up my build plate when I first got my machine...and I haven't had any indication that it's not level, so the auto-level feature is irrelevant to me.

I really like the twin air filters on my machine, which really cuts down on the fume stink.  The M5 doesn't have that.

So, since the pixels are rectangular....is it a 19micron or a 24micron machine?  Maybe an average of the two??  I think it's disingenuous to call it a 19micron machine.

PLUS, I haven't seen any direct comparisons yet with what it prints and other high resolution machines such as the 22micron Phrozen machines, or...any of the 8k 28.5micron machines.  I am going to bet that there's no difference because the resins available aren't up to defining much smaller than about 35microns, especially if you up the AA and blur to get rid of the layer lines.

Additionally, because of all the layers of stuff the light has to get through...the LCD, a glass screen, air, FEP before it reaches the resin, the actual pixel of light that reaches the resin is much larger than whatever resolution the LCD is...which is one of the reasons that DLP printers with their 50-something micron resolutions are actually sharper than 22micron MSLA machines...the DLP technology gets rid of the LCD for much sharper focus.

As for Z axis "resolution"....I think that "accuracy" might be a better description, and that was one reason I got the Anycubic Photon M3 Premium printer, because of its 0.005mm Z-axis "structural accuracy" which should help minimize layer line "effect".

So far, in both build quality and print quality, I couldn't be happier than I am with the choice I made to get the Anycubic Photon M3 Premium 8k 28.5micron machine.

But, the M5 is way cheaper.  And, I think that's because its build quality isn't nearly as robust as the M3 Premium's.
