ScaleTrains NS Autoracks

Anyone get NS racks in the latest run with badly smudged "Soaring" logos on both sides?

Well perhaps not smudged, but poorly rendered to the point of being unrecognizable without squinting.

I would need a closer look, but that logo might be printed using direct-to-substrate ink jet printer which is either out of adjustment, or has low resolution, resulting in a fuzzy looking image.

MTL has been using this decorating method for several years now, and they have upgraded their printer  several times, so the print quality is pretty good. More and more other companies are replacing Tampo printing with ink jet, but with various results.

Since Tampo printing uses a rubber stamp, the images will have crisp edges, while ink jet printed images will (under magnification) have fuzzy edges, due t the fact they are printed using tiny dots of ink.  Lover resolution printers produce fuzzier edges than high res. printers.

The CN T4s from Scale Trains latest have the Indigenous/CN logo on the cab and it looks like this too.  A bit disappointing

Sorry better pic.

Looks fine, unless you view at an angle.

Interesting. That does look nice and sharp.  Is the ink translucent, or is it very glossy, which caused it to look strange when not viewed straight on?
The earlier photo with the fuzzy logo seemed to also be taken straight on.

EDIT:  I checked the earlier photo and the entire photo seems a bit blurry (like it was taking with a longer exposure setting and the camera moved).

Yes the whole focus was out of whack on the first image.

I was focusing on the "blurry" NS logo, until you posted the 2nd photo.

I'm still curious as to what is wrong with the NS logo on your autorack, as in the 2nd photo the logo looks sharp (straight on).

Nothing from the ones I received.

Mine is worse - I'll post an image later today.

It does look better when looking at it from a low angle.

Preface: no dog in the hunt, and I don't consider this some major issue at all from what I'm seeing here.  Having said that, I know from experience how hard it is to effectively demonstrate something that looks "not great" in real life, so I'm not suggesting it's not a thing, either.

The one thing I noticed is it trails down as it goes from left to right.   Looks to be a good few scale inches lower on the right side.   At first I thought it wasn't square.  But it seems that the first, say, 2/3 of the logo is good but then it tapers downward after that. (around the "T" in Southern)

So there may indeed be some alignment issue of some sort.  Happens on the real NS too, I bet.   ;)    It's also possible that what I think I'm seeing is just an artifact of the photo, too.

I think it a function of a small logo - on the corrugations - when viewed from some angles...
