My steam locos from this era all run really well; simple open-frame motors with couplings (that usually look almost like aquarium hose), enclosed gearboxes. Smooth and quiet.

The diesels from that same time frame are crapola (sp?): they look nice but are lousy runners. Most show zinc pest rot in the gear towers, and those that don't still run very poorly.

Anyone else see something similar?
