Any CB&Q experts out there? Bridge Question.

After years of trying to figure out if a bridge at East Dubuque was meant for cars to pass under, I think I finally have my answer.  Next is figuring out the construction.

I'm wondering if this is some sort of standard Q bridge that might have a photo somewhere that shows more ground level views.  It looks like an interesting bridge with concrete support pillars at the midsection.

Mostly I want to know what happens at the beam in the middle.  In order for the need of supports, the beams must be in two pieces(?).  The last show shows pretty clearly what's happening in that situation, but what about just one middle support.


Anyone ever come across something related to this?

The one a East Dubuque has been gone for 40+ years.  Not sure where the other one is located.  If I get a night where I don't have to get up early, I'll do a Google maps dive along the old Q ROW and see if anything is still around.  Most likely, if those are concrete pillars, they've been replaced by now.

My finely tuned geolocation skills  of staring at tracks in wheat fields has led me to believe this is the location. Looks like a small overpass for access through the railroad embankment.

There’s one at Milledgeville with the concrete pillars (CB&Q signage intact!) While I can’t guarantee that the deck is unchanged, it looks pretty old, minus the wood railings:

I'm not real clear what your question is, but I'll try to describe what I'm seeing in the third pic.

You have three sections.  The two end sections are shorter, both in length and in height.   The middle is taller and longer since the span is wider.   You can see the stair-stepped shoe that sits on the cap to adjust for the difference in height.   The beams are just I-beams, spaced across the width of the cap.

If you look closely you can see the Burlington Route placard centered on the center beam.  Pretty cool little detail.

EDIT: So after re-reading your original post, I think you're asking what the third pic would look like if there was only a single pier, not two.   If it was centered (likely) then it would probably have just a simple (not stair-stepped) shoe like the one on the ends in the third pic.   Each beam on either side would almost assuredly be the same heigth since the span would be the same, unless there was some unusual circumstance that required greater clearance on one side.
