LokSound Nano in an N-scale Chop-Nose RS3m

I keep testing the limits of my sanity. After adding sound to the Dewitt RS3m, I couldn't resist attempting the install in my chop-nose RS3m (ex-PC #9951). The trick with this one was to locate the speaker and enclosure in the cab, since there wasn't room under the short hood. I had to mill the frame to allow room for the decoder and for the speaker, the chopped nose, plus a channel on the top of the frame for wires and resistors. The cap was just thin enough to fit under the short hood. I'm amazed that it all fit!

That is by far the best horn sound I have heard in a N scale locomotive.

That chopnose RS3m looks and sounds great.  I might ask you to consider adding some momentum, so that the engine speed will better match the sound . . . and it won’t take off like a bat out of hell.

Thanks, Dave. The momentum settings are the default for the sound file, so I'd have to see what they are. I think the jackrabbit start is more a function of me trying to manage the throttle in one hand and an iPhone in another, but I'll definitely check the momentum settings.

If there was a way to combine a Kato RDC truck (basically no gear tower), 40" wheels, and AAR truck side frames... Hmm...

Vividly remember watching them as a teenager.

Seems like a simple enough job to convert an RS3... any tips or hints that may not be obvious in the conversion...?

That is really well done!  I would love to add sound to my RS3M.  Now you have gotten me thinking.
