Hummmm.. there seem to be left over parts..

HI, Had the pin fall out of the rear truck on my Heritage 2-8-8-2 the other day. Got all the rods lined up and reinserted the pin. Tested and runs fine. However, I later found what appears to be a tiny clear plastic washer on the repair surface. Any idea where this would have been in the stack, against the driver or between the larger driver rods?

I assume you checked , but do you see a washer on the other side ? You may have to loosen the pin to see it .

Washers like that usually go on the eccentric crankpin, between the siderods and the main rod.

Obviously you have never worked on a car before...there are ALWAYS left over parts. I think that they put in extra in case you need them later  :D

Thank you for the information, guys. Knowing where to look and applying magnification & intense light let me identify it's correct location. Right you are Peteski! I'm still shocked that I found the thing, it's tiny and could easily stick to a hand and be carted off to God knows where.

Excellent!  You got lucky!

Yes, strong light and magnification are vital for working on N scale steam locos.  I have a fluorescent magnifier lamp, and also a high intensity halogen lamp over my workbench, and usually wear my Optivisor.  For extreme cases I have a stereo microscope with its own ring light.  I also wear a jeweler's apron to catch any parts that fall or roll off the workbench.  I seldom have parts drop into the apron, but of course when I am too lazy (or forget) to wear the apron, I always drop parts on the floor, and have to search for them.  :)
