I was a little bored earlier in the week so I did some design work on a NS GP59E. This version is one of the ex "aero cab" demonstrator GP59s.

So, this was the only unit out of 2200 with an extra-wide bedroom? How big is the bedroom where you're moving to?

The 11'-4" width is definitely big for an apartment size bedroom as far as I can tell.

The main bedroom in the new apartment is 10'-3" wide, but there is a 6" thick buildout along the wall for the yards (likely contains a plumbing stack).  However, it is 2'-0" longer with a walk-in closet at one end.  So the layout will have to get narrower, but might be able to get a little longer.  Some creative re-imagineering will be in order.

Will the new apartment layout room offer more space?..  perhaps to include more of the Fort St John subdivision?

Hi Andy:  As noted above, less width but more length.  I will actually lose a good chunk of my brief FSJ Sub as that section of the layout will lose at least 13 inches.  Septimus might have to become a stub yard with separate trains going and returning.  After the move is completed I will have some time to zero in on measurements and examine the possibilities.

The modular design definitely paid off; a few lessons learned but John (who has moved several layouts) tells me that by comparison this went extremely well with only minor damage to a few sections.

I actually managed to do something this weekend!  I did more work on my Dairy Queen T-Trak module.  Still a little rough and needing more details but this is the furthest I've got with scenery for any Model Railroading thing I've done in the 30 years I've been doing it.  So I'm pretty happy.  This is all using the Woodland Scenics Just Plug light system.  Pretty easy to do, and I'm happy with it.

I built something!

After my mom's passing and the divorce, this  is actually a big step to being normal. I got a lot of support from the girlfriend on this build.

Significant milestone for me this weekend - I completed wiring the staging helix, so the double-tack mainline is completely powered. 

I was running four trains simultaneously for the first time in more than 4 years. Hollered to the wife upstairs to come and see the momentous occasion.  No sooner did she step into the train room, when two of the four trains derailed...   


Come to think of it, the first time I saw my wife, I also derailed...

Seriously. I tripped over a chair in the employee breakroom.  Fortunately, she didn't see that... as far as I know...
