Would the Bachmann roof fix the MTL car for the BN/NP/CBQ and CNW versions? And does the MTL match a prototype as it is?

The MTL model is based on a Pullman-Standard built car (CBQ, NP, MILW, IC, and DRGW) and has the correct PS "bow tie" roof panels, but the pitch of the roof is a bit exaggerated.

Bachmann's two models have a flat diagonal panel roof that would be less accurate than the existing MTL roof.  If anyone is hell bent on fixing it, the only options I could think of would either be a new 3D print or to physically alter the existing roof to reduce the pitch.

The best option for CNW (built by Maxson) is to start with the Bachmann plug door car and scratchbuild new Superior sliding doors, etc.

The Northeastern caboose, USRA twin hopper, and the two 8k gallon tank cars are top notch.  The outside post trailer on the TOFC is decent also even though the flatcar is horrible.  So they do make some rolling stock gems here and there, but definitely its not a given.  And they always get dumped to market at some point, which is the best time to pick up the decent models.  They must be making money in the overseas markets because they continue to follow this business method.

The Bachmann NE caboose (or at least the ones I have) came with 36" instead of 33" wheelsets, but I agree 100% that they are nice models.

Yeah, for some reason their specs incorrectly call for the 36" wheel even though the trucks are correct prototypically.  I don't think they've ever corrected that on the many subsequent releases.  But that's easily rectified by swapping in correct 33" wheels.

The other models incorrectly ride on T-frame trucks.  The truck frames are Bowser-tooled I believe.  Accurate but not for those prototypes.  So other trucks need to be swapped in even for the better-quality models.

I have five of the older versions of these cars, all different road names, DRGW, GN, IC, SP, SSW. I got them for like $1.50 apiece.

I put the shells on the older Model Power track cleaning car chassis with MTL trucks. The shells fit right on and they look better ride height wise than on the stock chassis. The shells look a lot better than the old Model Power shells.

Not going for Model of the Year with them. It makes it easy to identify the track cleaning cars and to not get more than one mixed into a train.

I designated them as XMT’s in my Operations Pro set up and tweaked the settings around so that they all go different routes. That’s easy to do with Ops Pro. Over the course of a few Ops sessions they cover just about the whole layout. When they get to staging, l clean the pads and put them back on the track.

But what roof?

And to resolve the MTL roof issue, would the ExactRail X panel roof fit the bill as a replacement?

Diagonal panel roof for CNW (Maxson), ATSF (Transco), and UP (home-built)...which the Bachmann model already has...

The MTL model is based on a PS-built car and needs a PS roof...which it has, but with the wrong pitch (too steep)

On the subject of Exactrail roofs, their overhanging diagonal panel roof could be useful for modifying Bachmann's X-post car into SP's class B-100-32 or B-100-34:

UP sliding door car that could be built from Bachmann's plug door car (also a UP prototype) from Morning Sun UP color guide

Good source of prototype info for the PS -built cars that the Micro-Trains model is based on:

Does anyone have a working Debigulator?
