The track on my layout is level so I don’t have any operating issues so that explains why I don’t see one of the symptoms. I also have a very wide range of cars with different couplers. It is really funny. I have been in N scale 1990 or so and always thought of the slinky effect as just an exaggerated slack effect not, what I would call, an inchworm effect.

Well, I have a 3% downgrade on my layout,  like the prototype, and at a slow 15mph proto speed the slinky I get would break the necks of caboose personnel in no time. I “solved” the problem by dragging a heavy track cleaning,  “sled” car in front of the caboose to keep the trains stretched, but it’s still a less than optimal fix. Putting springs on the caboose axles is not close to enough drag...

Ya that tehach loop “pogo” is bad.
I had issues like that when I had mostly old MT wheels gunked up with clumps of wheel grime (flats to 2% grades).
When I converted my entire fleet all at once to MT LP wheels (for code 40) the issue evolved to more of a slack action with run-in like the proto deals with, but a little more extreme (however Much more acceptable than that pogo vid).
As I have converted most of my large fleet to metal wheels now, that issue has not returned to haunt the layout. Ive been hoping the metal wheels continue to prevent that gunk buildup... and so far so good.

And yes, we are practicing one of the finest Railwire off-topic diversions here. We are all really good at it.  8)  TRW is the best!

We could go even farther off the rails...

Was a bit curious. This got me.

Got a little something different dropping the plural of couplers.
