Yes, I knew that.   It wasn't clear whether or not they are actually producing the car or it was meant to be a joke that they would produce it.   I'm thinking it is a real release then?   Guess with the NYC cars last year it is something they are actually making.

At least one of my books says these were used in creosote oil service (presumably serving the tie plant at Radford).

Yes, very familiar indeed.   I've probably taken upwards of 20,000 photos at that exact spot over the years.

An interesting aside regarding this photographer that snapped the covered hopper in Saginaw...   Richard Whitenight became the face of photographer's rights after 9/11 when he had a run in with the police and FBI at Fort Worth's Tower 55, a previously popular spot for railfanning.  Big time nationwide coverage of the encounter and I think even ended up as an article in Trains magazine.
