Hey Peteski, the beauty of these materials is that the painting process is quick and easy.
On both the
raw MDF wood walls and laserboard trim, I masked off the etched brick areas and rattle-can sprayed a
light layer of
Krylon Camo "Khaki" on the foundation stone. No sealer or primer is required !!
5 minutes later I pulled the tape, reapplied a fresh layer of tape over the grey foundation stone, then sprayed a
light layer of
Rustoleum Red Oxide colour automotive primer on the etched brick. Use a brown or grey colour if you wish to change the overall building colour.
Another 5 minutes and I pulled the tape off everything and rattle-can sprayed and optional layer of
Clear Matte (Krylon or Rustoleum).
5 minutes later I was on my workbench with all the parts looking up at me.
I then mixed a wash of acrylic craft paints ... Umbers (brown) tone ... and began to tone the wall surfaces in random locations. Wetting the wall surfaces with clean water first, and bringing a brush load of acrylic to the surface is another neat way to drive tones.
Clear Matte Spray again.
Repeat toning with an Orange / Reddish acrylic as above.
Seal again and repeat if you wish to drive more tone or additional colours (i.e. grey)
For mortar I just dry brushed on some plaster of paris ... didn't need to seal it.
Added the signs, and even some details BEFORE framing up the structure ... very easy!!

All this was done with my walls and trim on a flat surface!!
Then I framed up the models you see photographed.
