Non sound decoder for Athearn Genesis HO GP38-2

Hi,
  I am wanting to install non sound decoders in two Genesis gp38-2s. outside of the headlights, one locomotive has a flashing beacon and the other has ditchlights on the front only. I am currently looking at a 4 function Soundtraxx and a 6 function NCE and was wondering if the 4 function was enough or if I really needed to go with the 6 function.

Add up each individual light you want to use. I.e. front headlight, rear light, flashing beacon, and if the ditch lights are alternating 1 each there. That's five so you'd need a six function decoder in that scenario.
