Thank You TRW: LokSound Volume Control

In looking for cap install photos to use as a guide for my Atlas SD60M I came across Jim Starbuck's "BLI SW7 with Loksound 58823".  The thread has the following:

The coil is a great idea but I rarely need to do additional programming after I have the engine set up. It has the correct horn. The bell and bell speed are set as well as lighting, dimming,  acceleration and deceleration along with the slow speed motor characteristics and sound functions.
Volume is about the only thing I change and that is set up on a function key. In Lokprogrammer in the function mapping field under the logical functions column there’s a selection for volume control. I usually set this up on F5.
It divides the range of volume into 5 or 6 segments then by double pressing the function key gives on the fly volume control. It ups the volume by 15-20% for each step then loops back to the lowest after passing the highest.
A neat trick Mr. Denton showed me.

What a neat idea.  For those without a LokProgrammer here's the JMRI version, just two steps.  First, go to the Function Map pane, select an unused function key (say Row 7 - F5) then in the Logical Functions column select "Volume & Mute" for that row and write the change.  Second,  go to the Function Labels pane, type in say "Volume" for F5, uncheck the Lock box and Save to Roster.   That's it, you now have volume control with a single press of the key.

Thank you Mr. Starbuck and, of course, Mr. Denton.

The volume control function is a cool feature. I got tired of changing the master volume when taking engines to train shows (I take almost the whole fleet) and changing them back when I got home.

Thank you Conrad.
I’m glad the information was helpful.
That’s great information on how to set it up with JMRI as well.

Great info gentlemen!

I have not found the "function labels pane". Any hints, I am using JMRI and I have ESU LP as well.

Thanks, be well,

carl

Carl, from the DecoderPro roster panel, there is a button underneath "Program On Main" and "Program Track" and "Edit Only" in bottom right,  "Labels"

Thanks Rick,

My roster panel window is too large and covers those bottom right options. I am not sure how I got it so large but have note been able to decrease it.

Actually I found the Labels inside the Actions tab.

Very helpful, thanks. For the v4 decoders (a 73825 installed by Kato in this case), a single press mutes and a double press adjusts the volume.
