Mike could you back cut or taper the ends of the felt similar to the way a good finish carpenter miters trim at 45 degrees for long runs?  if this were placed in the opposite direction of the car, the tapered end would reduce the potential pull at joints and switches.

I wonder if you could dunk those dirty felt wheels in an ultrasonic cleaner (filled with alcohol) to clean them for reuse?  Alcohol should not attack CA glue (not sure about 3D resin).

You know I was wondering if those woodland scenics felt strips for their static wheel cleaner would fit.  Maybe too narrow though and probably more expensive than the HL felt.   That cleaning car sure makes a din, at least it seemed that way on the video.
