There are several methods of decanting spray can. This one is interesting. I still use the nozzle with a tube method.I would not attempt your method. I'm actually surprised that the paint (with the propellant still dissolved in it) didn't "boil" over and start coming out of the hole you punctured in the can. Also keep in mind that the propellant is a highly flammable gas which is released all at once. I would not recommend doing this indoors, especially if it is a basement with sources of ignitions like a pilot flame on a water heater, or other sources of sparks. I'm probably overly cautious, but I don't think that is a bad thing. I recommend doing this outdoors.I absolutely agree that it is very important to lat the pain de-gas. It seems that the propellant (probably liquefied propane) is mixed with the liquid paint and it takes a while for it to evacuate from the paint.
Gaaa! My mistake. It's calle "Oxide Red", not "Zinc Oxide". But I still think it has that orangy red rust color that Pennsy fans have come to know and love from the old Floquil Zinc Oxide (believe me, I know that color well... I've touched up and "improved" a few engines for folks, brass and otherwise, with that paint!)
...it is very important to lat the pain de-gas.
Vill moose ketch squirrel zis time?
if it matters, i've only tried krylon, the regular spray bombs ...they're supposed to have a non flammable propellant, small sealed room with a cigarette going, lol
Where do you buy the Krylon spray paint? I was at Home Depot this weekend and all they carry is Rustoleum sprays (those use highly flammable propellant).
Krylon ... at your local WalMart store, lol
the non flammable propellant is the part I remember best, but I -think- it was the Fusion labelled one ??I do remember it was labelled as being safe for plastics ...This was probably spray bombs that I bought in 2010 - 2012 or so, I've been done that part of it for five / six years now...Unfortunately I got rid of the bombs just after that, and just kept the paint in an old Gatorade bottle, which I still have downstairs ..The left over paint itself is not flammable with a BIC lighter ??If it matters, I airbrush sprayed Atlas code 100 HO n/s track and turnouts
Ace Hardware, at least my local store, has Kyrlon Fusion.
Are you saying that you still have some of that decanted liquid paint and it is not flammable? Maybe there was another version of the Fusion spray? Next time I'm at Walmart I'll look at the currently available Krylon spray paints.
