The short wheelbase was the Atlas/Kato version.   Both the Atlas Classic and the Atlas Master versions have the same chassis and same wheelbase.

A good write-up of both GP9 models (with photos is) at http://www.spookshow.net/loco/atlasgp79.html

And RS11 models here:

The original Kato-made RS11 used the same chassis as the original Kato-made RS3 and GP9

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Not referring to the Kato version short wheelbase version.
I believe Atlas changed from using the classic RS3 chassis to using a new chassis with the correct wheelbase for the RS11 - which is a foot/foot and a half - longer than that for the RS3.

From their website:

Features:
Full pilots
AccuMate® couplers
Golden-white LEDs
Separate handrails and side sill
Correct wheelbase
Available DCC Ready & DCC Equipped
Cheers,
Scott
