Yes, the road surface is colored using several mists of spray paint, usually flat black, flat gray, and sometimes a bit of earth tone. It's to capture the essence of worn asphalt, where the tar is worn away to expose more of the aggregate.
A bit of weathering might tone it down a bit. But I've got a lot of other $h!t to do between now and Friday!
