Intermodal Operations on the Geneva Subdivision

Eja:  In fact, I do, but they're about the only variety in the trains I see.  I follow NS for about 12 miles on the way to work, and while there are occasional merchandise trains, most are "unit trains" of one type or another.  Coal, tankcars, autoracks, stack trains.  The closest to the trains I remember from the 70s are the stack trains, with the various container companies substituting for the variety of railroads back then.  But they're still boring.

Due to work locations, I saw very few trains from the mid-80s to 2012, so missed the transition from loose-car railroading to today's unit trains.  I knew it happened, of course, from reading magazines, but didn't actually SEE it happening.

Not exactly something one would see day to day as it was promotional train that happened once and the engine was painted back to Santa Fe colors as soon as they were done with the trip. I'm curious if there was any cargo in those containers.

I'm gonna guess different parts of the country are going to see different set ups. I have never seen a stack train with a homogeneous container set up come through Salt Lake. Sometime there's a train with more of one company than another but always different throughout the train.

I guess I should chime in here.  The main reason my containers are blocked together in each well car set is that I purchased them that way.  As you know, all the Kato well cars come with containers.  For the others, I usually purchased the cars and then picked up a set of like containers for the cars.  Not sure why I did this except that I do remember seeing KLine and Pacer trains with containers grouped together. 





Somehow though, grouping of containers has gotten out of control on my stack trains.  So, I am going to regroup the containers.  My goal will be to keep  some Kline and Pacer containers together while mixing everything else up more randomly.

If it makes you feel any better, there was a GP60M on the other end of that Maersk train in a red and silver warbonnet.  It was for reverse moves to make multiple photo run-bys.
