The gp60 has the 710 engine though.
Yes I know, but (to me) this sounds as much like their 710 files as their 710 files. Even more so than one of them...particularly while idling...and I find the overall quality is a little better than the other one.
I've moved away installing sound files based solely on their listed source recording and am going with final results, although I admit there's still a part of me that this kind of bothers. I'm now going for overall quality and what sounds like a close match. I am pretty particular about this stuff but I will admit I would probably struggle to always tell how many cylinders are banging away in a prime mover, for example, which I think gets mostly lost in the end anyway. It's the more overtly-characteristic stuff that stands out to me, like how a turbo kind of chirps at idle (like with this GP/SD50 file and proto GP60's) or maybe how a file sounds at the faster speed settings (there's a few files I've tried that I find sort of turn into a noisy mess at the higher speed settings).
There's also something else that I don't like and will have a bearing on what file I use and that's being able to pick up on sound looping, especially at idle. I may have a particularly sensitive ear for this but it can start to drive me nuts after a while as it starts to become rhythmic or even musical.
Is ESU going to continue to add the sound files to V4 and Select libraries going forward, so that we can continue to update our older decoders with new and improved sounds?

I sure hope so. I would love a higher quality modern GE file!
