It seems that CSX decided to start running trains in NC after the hurricane without inspecting their tracks.  The results have been quite predictable.  So far, no one is hurt.

I-95 is still closed in areas, and they thought they'd be able to start moving trains....really....  :facepalm:

Shocking. Did they really not inspect the tracks?  Or was it a failure of inspection?

Amazing that management would run the trains without checking the tracks. If so, every management person in that division should be gone. Hope no one is injured. Looked at Google Earth and Gravel Plant road there has lots of water areas. Image after the hurricane went through what it looked like.

That comes from an Amtrak employee that they didn't inspect.

And it looks like this train had 2-3 brand new locomotives for another road still in plastic wrap dead in tow behind the power.

Doubt they simply started running trains.  Any time tracks have been covered by water, inspection is mandatory, just like when cars in yards or industry sidings have been subjected to high water (covering the journals), wheel assembly must be inspected, usually requiring a wheel changeout at the location as the car can't be moved.

Not to say inspection could have been faulty that allowed train to derail on a stretch of compromised track.
