I could no longer resist my closet SPF urges....

The year is 1958 and the P&WV is running power short for it's branch line operation, so they are leasing some Pennsy power that's about to be put into storage.

Here we see PRR 1361 working the Medusa cement storage plant in Long Valley.

WOW, I had not realized my Long Valley Branch has not been updated in 3 years. About the only thing that hasn't changed is the owner still can't decide what prototype to model.

Last week the line was a N&W branch

This week the line is a Conrail branch thanks to some of the purchases I made last week in Altoona.

Who knows what railroad will be operating the branch next week  :D  :facepalm:

Well... given the order you've got there, it'll be Norfolk Southern! haha

@Rich_S,

Who says that you have to pick one road to model?  The beauty of a small layout is that it can be built with a generic theme and then you can put 1950s rolling stock on it this week, 1960s on it next week, and so on.  Or, you could run N&W this month, Conrail next month, and so on.  Because the layout is small, you can have a couple of small fleets to change out from time to time without breaking the bank.  It also keeps the layout more interesting, rather than just the same-old, same-old.

Well, depending on the year, P&WV, W&LE (old AND new), NW, SOU, MTR, WM, and NS are all prototypical, plus possibly NKP and URR.  And I would not be surprised if PRR, PC, and CR locomotives wandered onto P&WV rails at some point.  So I wouldn't sweat the roadnames!!!

@davefoxx  I've kind of been going down that road. Currently I have late 50's automobiles and trucks, plus late 60's through mid 80's automobiles and trucks to cover the different time lines of my models. So far I have enough rolling stock, locomotives and cabooses to run the Long Valley as a Ann Arbor Branch, Conrail Branch, Lehigh & Hudson River Branch, Norfolk & Western Branch, Pittsburgh & Lake Erie, Branch (2 eras) Pittsburgh & West Virginia Branch, Reading Branch, Southern Railway Branch and Western Maryland Branch. For fun I've also been creating Timetables using Word for the various lines. Including a modern short line called The Long Valley Railroad.

Yes you are correct, it does keep the layout interesting because in some operating scenarios the Midland Mine does not exist and the area is used as an interchange yard. In other scenarios Midland Mine does exist and that section of track is used as a spur track off the branch to service the mine load out. When operating the line as a P&LE branch, there is a switcher stationed in Long Valley that is used to switch the local industries and the road power just drops off inbound cars and picks up outbound cars left on the Long Valley siding. Plus I still have some scenery to finish and a few buildings need finished, so the layout is not completed yet.

That's the funny part, I do have two PRR K4's and a NKP Berk that I run from time to time with my P&WV rolling stock.

I also have 2 Union RR MP15DC's, plus the Bluford URR Transfer caboose and the two Atlas URR cabooses. So far I do not have any W&LE power. I also have the Atlas N&W GP35 1301, this was originally to be the P&WV 101, but the lease happened before the locomotive could be delivered in P&WV paint. This locomotive also sees duty on the Long Valley Branch  :)

If you are referring to the pictures that were on the pages 1 thru 3, they were part of that photobucket debacle. I deleted the markers, so they didn't have a side effect on the forum.

Here are a couple of track plans and a track schematic along with the end view of the layout.

Or this plan depending on operating scheme.
