I like the new crew and track expansion bits.  It's almost like they're recovering from HH

TTX has been buying new 50' and 60' boxcars by the thousands almost every year with FBOX and TBOX markings....

In other articles it been noted that CN is also ordering another 350 lumber (centerbeam) flatcars. The flatcars will be built by NSC; I haven't seen any articles yet that actually indicate who's building the boxcars.

These articles are also all noting the 50 to 60 new locomotives on order from GE as well. Currently CN is quite colourful being awash in a variety of CitiCorp (CREX), ProgressRail (PRLX) and GE (GECX) leasers to take up the slack with the current power shortages.

Over on CP, they've started re-activating a bunch of retired SD40-2s.

CN is bursting at the seams with traffic and is short on power but more importantly and potentially troubling, short on crews. Cannot recruit to meet demand. I hear they just won a contract to ship eight potash trains per month(?) to the east coast... will use grain hoppers as not enough potash cars to cover. Bust times.

They're just for ballast trains, and are gathering in Winterpeg afaik.

They had a lot of them laying around Agincourt Yard last year.

They had a lot of them laying around Agincourt Yard last year.

Unfortunately most went to K&K recycling in Pickering via Oshawa and CN, until CN stopped accepting them due to condition. CP 5824 sat on the transfer in Oshawa for at lease three months before heading back to Agincourt. The scrapping then too place in the yard.

5824 mets her end:

Along similar lines, while photographing in SoCal a couple weeks ago, I saw a bunch of brand new woodchip cars. It was nice to see.

I can't believe, given their prices on the used market, that ANYONE would scrap an SD40-2 that had a single ounce of life left in it.
