I first heard the statement "If you eliminate all the railroads, then in a few years you'll just have to reinvent them" back in the '70s when Nixon and the government were trying to kill off rail travel and RRs were bankrupting all over the place. You'd think this country would learn from China, Japan, Europe, etc that trains are vital and efficient means of transport. Nope, we just never learn.....
