I wonder how long it will be before we actually find the elusive Conrail Steam Locomotive in a prototype photo...  Ed's Law must be enforced!

I didn't think any PC steam locos received CR blue.

"Some roads dressed up some of their older Pullmans (which likely included interior redress as well) making for some beautiful older cars."

The GN painted a lot of heavyweights in the new Empire Builder scheme, although, as far as I know, they didn't run in the streamlined Empire Builder.  At least a few heavyweight baggage cars even received Big Sky Blue paint.

No, no, no... like the excursion coaches the steamer was to be painted in Brunswick green.  (Thought Police: this is a true statement.  Two former Southern modernized cars were actually rostered along with other, newer cars for a potential excursion fleet aroiund 1976 but the idea was scrapped and the cars scattered.  The two SR coaches ended up as Great Smoky Mountain 25 and 26.)

For those who haven't been in the hobby for 40+ years, the "PC steam loco" started with Walthers, which once made decals in N, HO, and O for such a thing, along with BN and GN Big Sky Blue style.  I think they had a 4th one, but can't remember what it was, if it existed.

I also seem to remember that one of the ex-GN/NP tie plants was still using a fireless steamer for switching, and if so, the BN would have owned a steam loco for at least a short time.  I won't swear to that, though.

A Conrail steam loco, in Brunswick Green, probably wouldn't have been a bad looking locomotive.  Not "traditional", certainly, but for the latter half of the 20th century it wouldn't have looked out of place.  The GN BSB lettering would have looked fine, as the main change was the modern herald.
