I agree, a new Pacific would be welcome, and I also would be looking at it for kitbash use. But the price tags on Bachmann's steam are putting them right out of consideration. MSRP on the HO version is $400; I would not be surprised to see an N Scale version priced the same. So let's guess a street price of $275. That's a lot of scratch for a kitbashing engine. And if they continue their trend of not offering a non-DCC-equipped version, there will be no cheaper alternative. I'm glad Model Power is still offering their new engines that way (DCC "ready", but not equipped).
We need to do some experimentation to figure out how to cut those MP boilers more easily. I tried diamon Dremel disks, and that works, but it's painfully slow - almost like cutting tungsten. Whatever that stuff is, it is ungodly hard!
