Fox Valley B&O Wagontop boxcars

The new release of these very nice models includes both brown and oxide red versions of these cars. Does anyone here know the appropriate time frames for these cars? I like the oxide red cars for variety but just don't know whether they would be appropriate for my 1947-51 time bracket. Information would be much appreciated.

The brown cars are "as-delivered" from the late '30s.  The "13 great states" logo and the red paint phased in in various forms during the 1940's.  Any of those cars could plausibly be in a c. 1947 train (although the brown ones would be good and dirty by then).  The large B&O "billboard" lettering is a 1955 change and so would be too late for 1951.  Fox Valley's product sheet does a pretty good job of breaking this down:

it shows lettering rather than paint color, but the color changed from brown to red shortly after WWII, although my best guess would be there were still some brown cars around years later, if B&O was like most roads.

I knew about the lettering styles. What I didn't know, and still not sure I do, is when the red would have been first introduced. Fox Valley infers 1945, with the early "Great States" scheme and road name spelled out?

The B&O changed to the oxide red around 1947. So your time frame from 1947-1951 the oxide red ones would be appropriate. Be careful which models you choose as some of the schemes were those used in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The B&OHS assisted with providing these lettering schemes. I will have to review my notes for what dates are appropriate for the different schemes. The re-weigh dates are accurate for a given lettering scheme. Some models from this latest run represent "errors" and other mistakes done by the repair shops. All examples are based upon photographs of actual cars. Many lettering errors occurred during the transition following the takeover by the C&O in the early to mid 1960s.

Looks like I'm good on all the cars I have as I didn't get any in the large B&O billboard scheme. I just need to weather the heck out of some of the brown cars, and I will enjoy doing that

I got my fill the first time around.

I laughed when I saw they were $5 cheaper than a Bachmann boxcar.
