@cjm413 it might be, but I'm fairly certain the waffles could be got out of a suitable strip of evergreen styrene with a chopper and a stop block. True, the glue up would be a challenge.

Of course I don't get to unpack my train stuff for two more weeks . . .

There was an article in MR within the last decade about making a PS waffle side car that used jigs for beveling and spacing the protrusions.
seemed like a simple enough process if not incredibly time consuming!  :D :D

To build on Bryan's suggestion if appropriate ends/roof were found it probably wouldn't be too difficult to scratch build the car sides from styrene, there isn't much there that isn't in the Evergreen catalogue...
The Railwire is not your personal army.

There's also the first step of having a suitable "unwaffled" model to work with.

If there's not a stock "unwaffled" model that could be used with little to no other modifications, any time and efforts pwould probably be better spent on rapid prototyping.

The article used either the MDC or IMRC PS 5277 as the starting point, which substantially reduced the amount of time and effort required to get the end result.
