Not true regarding the NW2. Sorry to say that, but I have two and they both have issues.

The NW2 is a rather bad runner.

The new mechanism works for heavy locos like the GG1, the E8 etc. and the SD40-2, but not for light locos IMHO.

What is causing the problem?  These had a problem with cracked gears slipping on the motor shaft. The other problem was with the electric pickup strips not properly seated in the depressions of the frames.  Also, this mechanism stands on its own with a non-standard (small) Kato motor and the way they transfer Motor's torque to the lower part of the loco through couple of spur gears. While it does use a screw-less chassis, the design of this model is unique.
