A Z scale switching layout in 2 square feet

This is currently unfinished but operational.  I built it on a 48-inch 1x6 using Atlas turnouts and flextrack. Rolling stock is AZL and MTL; for switching I equip the cars with MTL 905 couplers, plus drag springs to simulate 'brakes' (and also to overcome the 'slinky' in the MTL couplers... same thing as occurs in N scale). These AZL locos have the factory DC board (no DCC) and run on a plain old 9v battery with an inexpensive PWM controller.

Definitely I will need to upgrade that inkjet printed backdrop with a higher quality print.  (And yes, that is the image that @GaryHinshaw previously posted, shamelessly cribbed by yours truly.)   Also looking to try out @turbowhiz  's new couplers to see how they work with Z.  8)

Did you say you need a new backdrop?

I need to buy some new paper and ink but have been waiting for a commission. Hmmm...

Cool.  I forgot I posted that image.  The location is just outside Bakersfield but it looks like it could be anywhere in the midwest too.

Nice slow speed performance on those locos!

Very much what I'm aiming for with the East Norwood McCullough Yard!

At some point, yeah, probably, tho no hurry.... I'll need to get some scenery done, plus some ideas for a staging area
