Thanks. I'm actually interested in bearings for my Athearn Bombardier bi levels. Don't know if these will work on those cars or not.

Not trying to get TOO much information, but do you use 1 bearing per axle, or 2?

I'll post a pic or two.  And then you can figure out the rest.

One bearing per wheel.  So it takes 8 per car along with one pack of Kato wheels per car.

Here is the hardest (and scariest part  :scared: )
That bracket is in the way of the file.   I've done this about 12 times and never broke one yet.   But I also try to be VERY careful to manage the flexing and go slowly.   Obviously this is "dangerous".

Also, I found I had to not cut too high (away from the track) when filing the plastic.  Lower was better- pretty much retaining most of the top surface.

As long as everything is aligned well, the wheelset should spin freely.  A micro MICRO drop of superglue on the outer rim of the bearing holds the bearing to the plastic.

Phew! Thank you for that! I wonder if Shapeways might be useful to just make a bunch.

Hey.
Since I am done with this bearing project (I've acquired a 10 car train to see what the limit of an F40PH is)....

I have a few extra stock Bachmann Amfleet cars that I will let go cheap if anybody wants any.

I have 6 extras... and they are all cafe cars (sorry- no coaches).
4 are Amtrak ph 2 paint
1 in ph 4 b (Bachmann made both ph 4a and 4b- b has the reflective red stripe at the bottom of the body.  a has no stripe).
1 in Acela.

I'll let these go for lower than I paid for them.  Going price on auction is 22-25.
I'll let them go for 16 plus shipping.

I also have a Hippo  (HHP-8) loco.

Private message me if interested.

oh.  And these are stock cars.  I have not put bearings in them.  They are extras.

OK.  Thanks.

For those who are searching-impaired.... here is the link.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sop=10&_armrs=1&_pcats=479%2C220&_ipg=100&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X1x3x1mm+681+micro+bearing.TRS0&_nkw=1x3x1mm+681+micro+bearing&_sacat=0&_oac=1

This list gives you options to buy a few or a lot.

Stupid question..

Is there enough play in the truck for these to work?

I withdraw my question now that I see the price...
