Tutorial on ocean or lake water with waves - EASY & low-cost

Hi!  :)

I saw a forum thread some years ago on how to make water effect using toilet paper and glue.
I have tested this method and now also used on my own layout to make water in my harbour.
I think this method is close to "fool-proof" in getting a good and realistic result.
It´s also obviously a very low cost method, so I thought it was a good idea to spread this method by making a video tutorial.

I hope you like it.

Interesting technique, thanks for sharing! The colors and depth are quite lifelike. Oddly enough, the glue and toilet paper method works well to make distressed roads as well, just change the color palette and use a dull finish. Then use black washes to bring out cracks and detail.
Because why not...

Never would have thought of that combination to make waves. I think it looks good. I would dry brush some white on some of the ways, such as the wake from the boat. Really good work. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more from you.

Wow that was pretty good, seems simple enough. However, I had trouble focusing on the technique, because that music was putting me in the mood... 8)  :o  :P

great method!

Being an ocean guy professionally however () I have to point out that big waves like that hitting a ses wall would be immediately refracted back in them selves.

This is a good place to consider working with oil paints instead of acrylic, especially if you have a large area to paint.  While thinning solvents can be a PITA, oils dry slower and allow you more time for blending.  In addition, you can work with oils to create even more texture with brush and palette knife.  Now, the fact that oils dry slower means that 72 hour waiting period should be at least a week if not two to avoid cracking when laying on the clear layer.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
