Atlas S2 shell removal

Need some help here. Got an undec ...and need to pull it apart to paint. Any info out there on how to remove the cab and shell. Thanks

Have not tried it yet, but here is the text taken from the N Scale Encyclopedia site on doing so...

"...To remove the long hood, unscrew the two screws that hold it to the chassis (said screws are located on the underside of the chassis, just forward of the front truck). To remove the cab, first disconnect the cab handrails and end-railings (they may be glued, so be careful). Next, rock the cab back and forth (side to side) until it disengages from the chassis...."

I've taken mine apart and I recall the process being trouble-free.

I ended up slipping a chisel blade between the cab and the chassis to initially pry the cab off. Be mindful of the horn and the end handrails. Cab comes off before the body.

Ditto.  The cab is VERY tight - you likely will need to help it along with a chisel blade or (in my case) a very thin small putty knife.

I was completely unable to figure it out without looking at the Spookshow entry.  It is NOT intuitive.

I looked at the exploded parts diagram included with the model (I do that in most cases to familiarize myself with how the model is constructed), then carefully examined the model myself. Then I got the needed tools and did whatever was needed to get the shell off. I've done that once with that model and I don't recall it being very difficult.

But then, I service hundreds of engines so I suppose I'm more at home than an average model railroader disassembling N scale locos.
