Thanks for posting that Bob.  I thought there were drawings out there but forgot where.  So to go along with my last post, if you use those drawings as templates, you'll probably want to use a hinged point because a solid one could result in gauge issues namely clearences.

all my code 40 turnouts are hinge points with code 55 rail joiners, easy way and it works! reason why. when you cut the rail to full length and adjust it against frog. measurements are always off at point of contact, that's why i cut them a drop longer estimate location of rail joiner, adjust frog alignment and gauge, then cut point rail to perfect length every time perfect. and in gauge! and frogs are perfectly aligned, and point rests into rail nicely, just make sure you "break in" rail joiner cause any stiffness with-in throw machine will not throw all the way this spells derailments from open points.

Great write up on constructing turnouts Bob just wish you lived next door back in 1994 ha ha. I purchased a good number of ME #6 turnouts soon after they were announced at the Portland Convention in 1994 unfortunately they left a bit to be desired. At the same N Scale portion of the convention Robert Hundman had a hand made #20 crossover on display. Wow how good it was too. I also remember seeing those templates in the N Scale Magazine. Maybe somebody who knows the publisher should get them in print again. We used some of those templates when constructing our Thompson River Canyon display layout several years ago.
