I love this car. The compressed nature of the MT car is unfortunate, but something that I can live with. The graffiti from MT is great, and much better than what I can do with a decal. This is how it looks out of the box:

I added an ESM underframe that @bbussey was selling a few years ago to model the ATSF shock control underframe, complete with BLMA 70 ton trucks.

Next step, some weathering adjustments.

Can you glue in the stirrups higher so they touch the body?

I refrained from buying this one because it didn't seem to be a prototypical number.   I've seen photos of similar looking graffiti but this car seems to an 'inspired by' version of them.

MT graffiti and printed weathering is so well done by MT because they use the perfect printer for the job.  These are printed on an ink jet  printer which produces a slightly fuzzy image which is very similar to what a spray can does on 1:1 car and how weathered areas would be. This is something that a screen, laser  (or Alps) printed decal cannot emulate well. Of course there is serious skill still involved in drawing the artwork, but using he right printer for the job helps a lot.

Hmmm...I wonder if @Shipsure will accept artwork?  What machine do they use, anyway?

This particular car was a mash up, though we generally, these days, use a proto pick and match the car as best we can.  As for submitted art...yes, I can use all the help I can get :)   lol   Sorry, can't talk about process or equipment, company policy at the moment.

Thanks Tom, as always, a huge fan of your work.

That car looks great.   I've pretty much given up on trying to get the weathered/graffiti'd cars as none of the local pushers seem to be able to get them, but that one would be a purchase if I came across one.

I did my research on this car as well....it's a little further off the "appropriate versus plausible" graph than I'd like, but I do take the art/overall look into consideration and this one would make the cut.   I also want to support MTL for being innovative here and doing what needs to be suggested in other companies' planning meetings.

However, having said all that, it should be noted that my opinion about decoration doesn't seem to be very well received around here.   So maybe it really just sucks.

One note, Tom...be careful with the "weathering adjustments" as there have been horror stories of the printing disintegrating if you try to do any fading or anything involving alcohol. (application, and drinking)   I know you know what you're doing, just a reminder/FYI to you and others.

Lol, its cool I'm not that worried about it, I'm probably going to buy it anyways cause it looks good and its SF.
That and if anything I might try and find a smaller door to make it look closer to the proto... Idk...
