Micro Trains is offering Atlas 4-4-0 locomotives decorated in Civil War paint schemes. They look good but I hope they run better than previous offerings. They ran like #!@=/ !

Trying to find color info or even B&W shots of that era of any particular named or numbered loco within a 20 year time frame is harder than finding head hair on Kojak . MTL doesn’t claim a new mechanism so chances are slim . I was on the fence for a UP one , till I saw a too close for comfort on another one of the offerings . They look sharp though .

the Atlas 4-4-0 really needs DKS' Improvement kit, too bad he's not producing stuff at the moment.... :(

If I am not mistaken, the first Civil War sets used the Bachmann 4-4-0. The Atlas 4-4-0 came out about the same time as the MT Civil War sets were released. The Atlas offering is a much better loco than the Bachmann.

:|Yes very true, Micro Trains was using Bachmann 4-4-0' s with their sets. The Atlas (I own both) run a lot better than even the newer improved Bachmann locomotives, but I do agree that they could also be improved, yes too bad DKS is not around.  Nate Goodman (Nato).
