Does Atlas sell decorated shells for current releases?

Does Atlas sell complete, decorated shells for their newer n scale locomotives? I recall that a couple years ago they were selling extra or surplus inventory of various shells from previous runs, but I’m interested in a GP40 shell in PC that was just released. Their website shows that the complete models shipped at the beginning of this month, so I'm guessing they should still have some extra shells at the factory. Is this something that I need to contact Atlas directly to order? I have an extra GP40-2 that I was going to sell off on eBay, but when I remembered that another run of these was coming, I thought of the shell swap idea.

I asked this same question over on the Atlas Rescue forum and go no replies.

Thanks, Mark

I managed to get a decorated BNSF H3 GP38 shell from Atlas, so your best bet is to call Atlas's Parts Department and ask. You may have to do it Monday though.

Typically, no. When we first discussed selling our old decorated shells, the rule was that the run had to have been at least two years old before letting the shells go. Things could have changed. They tend to keep me in the dark in that regard (probably for the better...).  :scared:

Well, thanks all for your input. I think I’ll just send the parts department an email and see how they reply. Worst case, the say “no” and I’ll just buy a complete model from the new release.

I've asked about painted parts and been offered complete shells in the past.

I'll save you the email. We will not sell you a shell from the recent release of the N GP40/40-2 locomotive. Email us again in July 2017 and we can talk.

You can always get an undec GP40 shell assembly from Atlas and decals and afterwards sell the GP40-2 shell.  PC is an easy scheme to paint.  If you've never painted before IMHO it would be a good scheme to start with.  And if it's the orange "c" scheme you wish, the Microscale decal sheet as 3175 in the number jumble.  This is one of the GP40's that had this scheme for a while and make it a bit easier to work with.  Or if you just not into painting, which is by no means a bad thing, maybe you could find someone to paint one up for you.  2 years is a long time to wait.  No offense to those nice folks at Atlas who keep me from adding to my retirement account intended.
