DCC Sound Cars?

Anyone try or use a DCC sound car in N scale as an option for sound? I run mostly small locos (primarily EMD switchers) on my DCC line and am considering trying this as opposed to trying to stuff everything in such a tiny loco. Yes I know it can be done, and I've seen the 44 tonner with sound, but I don't seem to have the electronic surgeon skills for that level of work.

I'm assuming that a sound car could be consisted with the loco so it will throttle up or down with the loco, yes?

What I'm playing with is putting a separate sound decoder and speaker under the layout, with the address set to the same address as the loco.  My layout is a single peninsula, so you're always facing the layout.  The sound is clearly not coming from the loco, but it's close enough.  Depending on the shape of your layout that may or may not work.  And of course if you want to take it elsewhere to run it obviously won't work.

Watching and reading info out it is advised to run 3 cars with the sound units . They look to be easily consisted and you can also light an EOT and marker lights. I am on board and when funds become available will buy a discounted 3 pack. I'm looking forward to comments of owners too.

Here are some pictures of one I mounted in the KATO "Power Car" . The Decoder is on the left and the keep alive on the right, with the Knowle's Fox speaker far right. Rather straight forward install. I am still adjusting the sounds. The main reason I wanted it was for the generator sound, it also has rail clickity clack, flange squeal, and other brake sounds as well. If you have seen the 1:1 FEF Heritage train then you have seen and heard the power car. That is what I am striving for.





If you want to hear it, check out this short video and keep in mind that I am still adjusting the sounds. You can hear the rail clack and the flange squeal.
