Bill:

Castings look good.  I wonder if you have considered offering a generic MOW version with all windows plugged but no other alterations, from which modellers could then proceed with MOW conversions for their specific railway?  The PGE/BCR had numerous ex-troop sleepers in MOW service, as I am sure many other roads did.  Starting with a shell that had all the windows plugged would be a useful starting point for some, I am sure.  Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion Tim. I haven't considered that yet but I think I need to move in another direction since I have sold a whopping two castings of the REA car so far !

Perhaps a "holiday sale" will entice those on the fence.  ;)

Hey! That makes me part of a VERY exclusive group!
Seriously? I just ordered some of the microscale decals too!
Really, only 2? That is sad..... :?

Along with my 2 Phase III RS-3 bodies, I'm a happy man. Now if you would consider doing these with the PRR dual headlights vertically, I would die and go to heaven.... :P

BTW: the quality of the bodies is incredible! Not a sign of any voids or bubbles in any of the 3 bodies I received and the detail level is amazing! Hats off to you sir!  :)

Mr. Denton's nice display of 3 common REA schemes got me wondering - did the older 50' wood REA reefers ever get painted in the 1953 scheme?  I know that models have been sold painted that way (e.g. by Roundhouse), but I still wonder.

Well, I have my car ready to paint.   The instructions say to wash the casting (but not the styrene brakewheel) with mineral spirits.  I've never used them for this purpose before - should I let it air dry and then paint (I am using True Color acrylics, which are not water based), or should I wash it again with soap and water first?

wash with soap and water after the mineral spirits...I'm about to paint my two castings as well...(these are my 4th and 5th purchases of Bill's great castings..all have been variants of his converted troop sleepers).
I'm using Tamiya acrylics this time...simply because they have better matches to REA's "Hunter Green"...I'm using their XF-26 'Deep Green' mixed with XF-73 'D. Green /JGSDF' ...3 parts XF-26 to 1 part XF-73.

The wooden on steel underframe express reefers definately were painted in the 1953 scheme, with the big red diamond logo...there are many pics online showing them in that scheme...many made it all the way into the 60's...

The current issue of NSR (March-April 2015) has an excellent and well-photographed article on these cars by our own Mr. Denton. These unique but numerous cars could be seen all over the country and Bill's article shows multiple variations and paint schemes.
Well done Sir!
