How hard would it be to back date the FEF-3 to as delivered or even a FEF-2? Keep thing about getting one but I'm modeling the 40's.

I just did my version of an fef2  on the let's see your fef3  thread. I carved off the feed  water heater in front of the stack and associated piping. I steel need to modify the pilot as the fef2s didn't get the master mechanic  pilot like the 3s had.  also there are some changes that need to be done to the tender deck on the oil tank that I left off for the ease of the project. im more of a Santa fe  modeler but I have to have these for Cajon pass  abd I don't know every little detail like I do Santa fe steam.  maybe Jason, bob, richie,  or someone else witheven more knowledge can help.  also Bob did write a very good response in a thread on here when these were announced.  look I'm the product discussion forum.

Here is FEF-2 833 which also could be painted black for your era .
Coal bunker in tender , ash pans on bottom of firebox , FEF-2 pilot , single stack , and a few other things . Note that box midway on right side of tender needs to be removed as well . Each FEF may have some unique differences per road number and date .

Drask,
I'm not a UP modeler either but with the pulling power I need something to pull my troop train I've been slowly working on.

Thank you for the link.

Maybe Superturbine will have a casting for the Chassis soon.

I have all the FEF-1 casting which would be needed.  The interesting thing is the water bottles!!!  (THE ARE MADE FROM FEF-1 tenders)
