I remember reading once that the first run of DRGW SD50s had a lettering problem. I believe I remember part of the Rio OR Grande was not straight or something.... Anyone remember what the problem was....

I thought it was a later run that had a little bit of an upward curve to the lettering on the flanks, but I'm not positive.

I dug out the 5507 and 5510 last night. It looked to me like the first run 5506 and 5510, the Rio tilted up on the Flank.....

Both ends of the logo on the long hood curved up at the end, so it looked like the logo was 'smiling' at you.

I just painted the long hood black and replaced the logo with one from a Microscale decal set.  Looks great now!

Bruce, it was the 5506 and 5510 , and unnumbered that Smile isn't it? That's what it looks like to me...

When I modelled Rio Grande, N Scale Supply was selling a custom version of the Microscale decal sheet with the proper color of orange.  If you are going to re-decal it is worth getting a set if still available.
