Gawd. I know the feeling.

With so many projects in the mill these days we don't go much of anywhere without a list. Stuff gets forgotten otherwise.

It must really vary from store to store.  Stopped by my local Target on Tuesday and they were $79.99 with nothing on sale.  I happened to be in the area yesterday so I stopped by and they were on sale for $24.99 without the gift card.

I went to mine, looked around, saw nothing. I asked the less then helpful person in the electronics section and they had no idea what I was talking about. Oh well, I'm sure they'll be more deals like this in the future,

After visiting 3 Target stores I was finally able to get that device!

I found the Kyocera Event phones in their usual spot but for $59.95.  So I asked a nearby employee about the special deal. He said that yes, that offer was still valid but the discounted phones (and gift cards) were displayed elsewhere.  He took me over to them and I was able to get the deal as advertised.  That was a hassle but I did end up with a $5 Android "throttle".  WiThrottle doesn't work on Android phones - as mentioned earlier I needed to install Engine Driver app. instead. Haven't tried to use it yet - the operating sessions over my friends layout don't start for few more weeks.

I will have to pick some of these up. I have been operating for years using Engine Driver on my Droid 2, Droid 3, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, and Galaxy S4 to run my layout. I keep all my old phones specifically to use as throttles. A few more of these wont be bad at all. Makes it easier when friends come over as well and dont have to tote throttles around and instead can just have their phones link to my layout specific router with WiThrottle or Engine Driver.

I thought I would miss the knob but after using them for a bit I dont miss it at all. I did "extend" the on screen slider and set it to display one throttle at a time, which makes things easier. I have used the volume buttons as well and they work pretty swift.  After using it for so many years I cant think of a reason why I would drop $$$ on a Digitrax throttle, when I already dropped the same amount on a phone that I am no phasing out.

Me too.  And I'm using an old 'decommissioned' 802.11g WiFi router for the WiFi.  DCC throttles can't come any cheaper than 'free'.
