From what I have been able to find, I think Micro-Trains is going to produce a heavyweight baggage car. Anyone have any more info about when it will be available?

The diner is next.  There have been no official announcements about if or when a baggage will be released.  More information should be released next month at the Springfield show.

I'm looking at trying to do some storage mail cars, myself, out of the MT RPO similar to the ones rebuilt by the Spokane Portland & Seattle.  Acquired by the SP&S from the Great Northern as full RPOs they were rebuilt first as baggage - mail cars with the doorway enlarged on one end and the windows plated over, numbered 43 and 44, and later rebuilt to mail storage by doing the same to the other end, renumbered once again, this time to .  Below are some links to the cars as mail storage cars which show the plated over RPO windows still evident...

I just hope MT continues with the CB&Q line when they do the baggage and diner.  I also hope the do the baggage in multiple road numbers and/or runner packs.

Here is where my train ignorance pops up but I thought that the RPO Heavyweight Car was also used for baggage. I have a few in the undecorated but painted Tuscan red I'd like to sell. If its RPO then its only for mail?

Well, there was the PBM (Passenger Baggage Mail) and PB classes on the Pennsy. Granted, it's not a 60 foot dedicated post office, but I think it still counts.

Yes, there were "full RPOs", where the Post Office used the entire car, and then there were RPO-baggage cars, with a shorter post office and a separate section for the baggage.

Incidentally, the RPO section should be run in front, either next to the locomotives or behind any storage-mail cars and/or express box cars, as the train crew wasn't allowed in the Post Office section.  Thus, if the conductor or brakeman had to go into the baggage cars while the train was moving, and they were in front of the RPO, they couldn't get there!
