Chessie System Atlas paint matching

I'm going to start working on my pair of Chessie geeps, and I need to do some detail painting.

Does anyone have any good recommendations to match the blue, yellow and orange that Atlas used on their GP40s?

I think I read that Atlas uses the Accupaint formula for the Chessie yellow ,B&O blue and Vermillion but some say that the orange (vermillion) is off. I have only painted B&O units myself and use Polyscale B&O royal blue all my Chessie units are factory paint.

Ed,

May sound like a dumb question, but do you have an early release GP40 or one of the newer (DCC ready) ones?

Reason I ask is because the early Atlas China Chessie attempts were too red in the orange.  The original Atlas SD7/9 made by Kato looked good, but when Atlas went on their own, they struggled a bit to get the color right.  It wasn't until about the U25B that they adjusted it to a better hue.

In my opinion their best Chessie colors are on the SD35,U23B I also like the Bachmann Chessie colors on their GP7, I like all my Atlas units I got like 20 Chessies and the paint on all is pretty accurate. One example of paint variation is the SD50, the unit with the B&O markings is lighter yellow and the C&O marked unit is the more accurate darker slightly orange yellow.

Ed, if the red is too much on one of the units just tone it done by some weathering.  Always worked for me.

Much to my chagrin, they're the pre-DCC ones.

I didn't realize Atlas had even made geeps that weren't DCC ready. Ya learn something new every day...

I bet that this is mentioned on Mark's (Spookshow's) website.

Probably. Never thought to look it up since I thought I knew all about them. Looks like I was wrong.

Ed,
I used Accupaint on those early Atlas Chessie Geeps for the handrails and drop steps...unfortunately I don't think it is still available...
