I also did not glue the body to the floor. It is held on with neodynium magnets to allow for adding more weight later or lighting if needed.

Tony,
Do you have any pictures of how/where you placed the magnets?  I'd rather not glue the car body to the floor since I hope to one day add marker lights, but just leaving the two parts press fit together is risky.

-Brian.

I don't have any pictures but it was pretty simple...

- I glued a flat steel weight, borrowed from a cheapy freight car, to the floor of the car.
- I then took a scrap of the light ply from the kit that fit between the walls of the car body and glued the magnet too it.
- Place a paper shim over the steel weight and then stick the wood/magnet assembly wood side down, so the wood is between the magnet and the steel. If you do it the other way, the magnet will usually stick too good and pull away from the wood when trying to take the car back apart.
- Use some slow setting glue place some in the car body sides approx. where the wood will set when the body is mounted on the floor.
- Place the body on the car floor and let dry.

The paper shim is there so that once everything is dry, there is an airgap between the wood and steel plate, allowing the body to snug down farther if need be.

I've used this technique on a few cars but never took pictures.

Ok, got the windows and doors glued in, but have a question.....

It says glue the paper backing to the ends. What paper backing?

Where does it go?

Sorry,
It's been a while since I built one and I honestly don't remember using the instructions for much more than the exploded views.

No problem. Just trying to figure out this paper thing. Instructions dont really give much detail on it.

Look for the paper backing in the small packet containing the decals. The paper rectangles are glued inside the ends of the cabin to form the door panels.
There are some other paper parts that are to be glued under the running boards. Just study the pictures and it should become clear.

So I have looked everywhere and no one has the correct atlas Bettendorf friction Bering trucks. Anyone help?

You mean the caboose version with leaf springs?

Let me look when I get home.

Atlas sells their friction-bearing leafspring trucks as a separate item.  Call the main number and ask for the Parts department.  With the Kato tender/caboose trucks unavailable, the Atlas trucks are the only valid option at this time.
