Which builder's plates are which on decals?

I got a set of the MicroScale Diesel data decals and it's cergtainly a wonderful assortment of miscellaneous engine marking but hey, I'm not familiar with the various loco builder's nameplates. I know EMD's, but I want to use the Alco and GE 44-T plates -- these things are REALLY tiny so anything about color, shape, major features, etc would help.

Google can probably find a lot of other sites with pictures.  And, if you can get one, the HO decal sheet may be worth buying and inspecting with a magnifying glass.  Good luck!

I have the same set, and have based my guesses on shape and color patterns.  It may not be right, but no one can read the things anyway, especially when the engine's moving...  Several of them have shown up as door logos on trucks as well.

I don't have an Alco or a GE 44-Ton plate avaiable to measure, but a March 1949 GE 70-Ton builder's plate is a rectangle 8" wide X 5" high (0.050" X 0.031" in N-scale), if that helps.  Also, for reference and of possible interest to Canadian modellers, a July1954 Montreal Locomotive Works builder's plate is also a rectangle, 12 1/4" wide X 6" high.  Both plates are primarily black with silver border and lettering.  In N-scale, the GE logo on the 70-Ton plate would be about 0.005" in diameter and the "General Electric" lettering would be 0.003" high.  The MLW logo might actually be readable as it would be 0.020" wide X 0.016" high.
