Stripping paint from Shapeways FUD

I painted my two Shapeways Harsco rail grinders yesterday and one came out perfect...the other not so much.  They are FUD.

Question is... Can I strip the paint in traditional ways ie 91% alcohol and not damage the shell, or am I SOL?

I'd be curious what Bestine does to paint. We certainly know it's OK with FUD. Try a test patch?

I personally haven't tried Bestine on paint because I work hard at keeping Bestine and regular plastics on opposite sides of the room. :|

I don't think anyone has found a solvent yet that harms FUD. You should be safe with the standard methods.

You should be fine with 91%. Bestine will have a lot more trouble with paint, and if it's cured long enough, it won't touch it.

Ian,

Not sure if I had dirty 91% alcohol or not, but leaving a FUD piece in it overnight led to warping and some cracking.  When I took them out in the morning, the sides had actually curled up under the hood and they straightened out some after being washed and left to air dry.  See my post here: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=29913.0  Catt says no more than an hour in alcohol, wish I would have known sooner.

That being said, I had another piece I took a toothbrush with alcohol on to it and it started to take PollyScale paint off within a few minutes.  Just be careful of how long it is in whatever the stripper may be.

Whilst not much help to you chaps over the other side of the pond I use a UK product called Superstrip by Pheonix paints, does no damage whatsoever. Great product as I have not found a paint it will not strip and a plastic it will not damage.

I made a mistake on one of my Pete 387 cabs and dropped it into brake fluid overnight, and then scrubbed it off with a tooth brush with a little paint thinner.  Worked just fine.

Make sure it is the standard (glycol-based) brake fluid, not the silicone brake fluid.
