I'm pleasantly surprised that there's no issue with the lurch that accompanies moving it out of one of the detents. I was always worried about that.

6 or 8 feet. It's been over 5 years since I saw the layout. He moved south and I moved west. He had a 32' by 32' basement before he moved. He built a 32'+ by 32'+ building in Mobile for the railroad. Brick. Should weather the hurricanes.
