Thats for the help...much appreciated.  And Ed, your right, I'm not representing MTL here...but I am moonlighting :).  Again, thank you!

Joe

I'll try to get the other smaller stencils. I know the WM gondola book has paint charts but no hi-res photos of that class of car. Might be best to get a second confirmation just to have confirmation.

The text under "LA" appears to be about axles and brakes.  Other than that I'm not sure.  The Jan '01 Mainline Modeler has some details but the photos aren't large enough to read the print.

Joe, why make more work for yourself when you don't have too?  Instead of 5446 why not do 5420 at the top of the page in the color guide?  It's the same car without the lettering we can't read.  The only difference is it has a side brake wheel not an end one.

Between the color guide and these two pics plus sizemore's photo you should have all you need.

The original lettering scheme that has the correct data numbers:http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=wm5411&o=wm

The later scheme showing where the data now goes: http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=wm54786&o=wm

And please leave off the black-painted consolidated data areas since those are Chessie additions.

You're making a lot of people happy here.  :)

Joe,
Jack Brown tells me there's a new book published by the WMRHS that covers gondolas exclusively.  You can contact them the old fashioned way at Box 395 Union Bridge, MD 21791, or by email at wmrhs1@verizon.net.

Should be chock a block full of WM goodness.

This is from the lettering diagram A-324:

Appears to be axle info as CSF pointed out. The last stencil appeared on other classes but I wasn't able to find anything legible.

Looks like Joe is crowd-sourcing his research (quite successfully).  That makes perfect sense in this Internet age. Especially if it makes his job easier and results in more accurate models. Nice!

Makes it harder for the habitual complainer, but we'll manage.

I like this "detail by committee" format, especially when the committee is made of  :ashat:'s.

Dont take it as gospel, just pointing in the right direction between the items I posted we have two paint diagrams/examples but the cars we're "homegrown", the best solution is to poll the Hysterical Society as their library is the best resource.

I mean it as, more eyes on the problem. There are more people to catch possible errors before production and more minds working on solutions.

I think a better term would be "Mob Sourcing Research" on Railwire.   :D

I'm really interested in this car.  Question, questions, questions.  Is is going to be massed produced for all us  :ashat:, are containers going to come with it, and (for all you WM experts) what did they haul?
