C424 C425 builds?

I have another undec and some of the resin parts to modify the filters and fuel tanks to more closely resemble a CP C424. I can't remember who made the parts at the moment , but I do have them.

This is a stock Life-Like N&W unit, with added details and decals.  Nowhere near the standard set by others here, but reviewing their work shows me what I overlooked here (such as filling in the space below the walkways).  Fortunately for the EL modeler, the rear hood numberboards are correct.  My next attempt, whenever that may be, should be vastly improved by the lessons learned.  And it will have a decoder put in it too...

An interesting bit of trivia about Tim's, Brendan's and my Alco's picture above:  They all once worked for the Erie-Lackawanna, (though need to confirm that for Brendan's pair).  Then there's Ron's in E-L colours!  Thought that too cool not to mention.

These units were part of an order of 9 ex-EL and RDG C424's rebuilt by General Electric at Hornell, NY for the D&H in 1980 numbered 451-456 and 461-463.  They received new 2000 HP 251 prime movers.  3 of the units (461-463) were financed by Genesse & Wyoming for a run through salt train, they took them back in 1985 dropping the 4.  61 has been wrecked while 62 and 63 are now on Minnesota Commercial.  The other 6 units stayed on D&H, some of the units were transferred to ST to give D&H some cash to keep going.  When the D&H went bankrupt they took the ST units back.  CP apparently didn't want them and GTI needed the power so the lease was bought by MEC.  4 of the 6 were sold to Livonia, Avon & Lakeville 1997 while these 2 stayed on GTI property because they were unserviceable.   2 GP9's 66, 68 were traded to the lessor as replacements for these two, so I think GTI owns them outright now.  Unless someone wants them as parts units they will be scrapped. 451 - 456 were ex Conrail. 461 - 463 ex Genesee & Wyoming. All painted blue all over with yellow nose stripes.


In terms of my fleet.. I have 4 of them. 454, 461, 462, 463. All with the stock rear radiator. I found a picture of 454 and it has the flat rear radiator. So mine model is wrong but dont have the time / skill to fix it. I think 461, 462,463 are correct and have the same radiator as on the model.

Here's a couple more to add to the fine photos above.
Firstly a C-425, former SP&S 326, now on the WNY&P.  This is only a slightly modified Life-Like C-424, still with some phase I C-424 details.

I have more planned, including rebuilding M&E 18 & 19 before the real ones have their 50th birthday next September.  Nearly as old as me!!!

I know there are more C-424s out there, I've seen photos!  Can we please see them again?

Wow! This one gives an interesting idea of what an Alco Century loco might have looked like in Milwaukee orange and black. I know there was at least one manufacturer that did a rather ugly fantasy locomotive in Milwaukee colours for one Century series engine, but I can't remember which one. This one looks much better is a very tempting prospect for a fantasy unit.

If they are the same ones I used they are by a Quebec guy called Transport 3000.... He dhd the fuel tanks, air reservours and four fiter insert - I used them on my two units that I posted the pics in this thread,

I picked this up on eBay. I didn't realize while bidding on it that it had been modified. I thought I was buying a stock LL unit. As it turns out, I paid less for it than I would have for the stock unit. Sorry for the crappy pics.

Cool; add a cover over the lead intakes and a split fuel tank and you've got yourself a close to CPR model.... great grab !
